About the Artist

Jennifer Kent is a multicultural Australian woman with First Nations ancestry from the Jinibara and Quandamooka peoples of Southeast Queensland. She comes from a generational family line of artists and song people, and works as a community activist in the ministry of Reconciliation. Jenny hopes her art inspires joy and happiness in everyone who sees it.

The Artwork: Buguwar-dja, "Freshwater Country"

This jersey features an original artwork centred on an abstract map of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, one of Australia's most popular rail trail cycling routes. Buguwar-dja translates to "freshwater country" in the Dungidjawu language — a fitting name, since this region supplies freshwater to many households across Southeast Queensland. The artwork weaves in local fauna and plant life along the trail, celebrating the landscape riders pass through on every lap. It's also available in a men's cut, making BVRTUA one of the few Australian cycling apparel brands built around a genuine, region-specific Indigenous artwork rather than a stock print.
